WHAT DID YOU SEE?

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.  Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.  They have no speech; they use no words; no sound is heard from them.  Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.  In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.  It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.  It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.” (Psalms 19:1-6 NIV)

What did you see when you left the house yesterday or any day?  Did you see vehicles speeding to work because the drivers did not manage their time to be on time?  Did you see drivers honking their horns when they were on the verge of road wage and were disregarding their bumper sticker that said, “Praise the Lord?  Did you see the person in the car next to you talking on their hands-free device?  Did you see cars vibrating due to the high decibels  produced by the music that was blaring on the radio?  What did you see?  Were you in such a daze, focused on what awaited you at your destination that you barely saw anything?  And if you did not even venture out of the house, did you just look out the window to see if daylight had relieved the night of its shift?  Or did you look out and see the Canna Lilies in your yard growing taller, extending higher than the day before, as if trying to reach the heavens?  What did you see?

Two faithful members of the church I pastor, Sis V., and Sis. J. recently took a hot air balloon ride.  Their motives were to see the world from a higher vantage point, experience something new, and at least for one of the sisters who is not a fan of heights, the motive was to step out of her comfort zone.  Just as a side note, many Christians need to step out of their comfort zones and move up higher in their spiritual growth, sincere worship, and sacrificial service.  But let’s get back to the balloon ride.

I thought perhaps the sister’s motive was trying to get a sample of what John felt when he was carried away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and was shown the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God (Revelation 21:10).  Even though I was wrong in my speculation, what they felt was right and wrapped in appreciation as creation, using no words, spoke to them.  What did they see?  They saw a wide view of the earth in all its green glory below them  They saw one of God’s created creatures, a hawk, wings spanning several feet, slowly turning circles, on their broad rounded wings, flying above them.  They saw the clouds, looking like fluffy cotton balls, varied in shape and density, billowing around them.   Their hot air balloon adventure brought to life the reality that the earth, everything above and below them; everything around them, including themselves, belonged to God.  What did they see?  They saw reassuring sights that attested to the fact that we, both you and I included, serve a mighty God.  Let’s depend on Him today!  Let’s look to see God in creation.  Your faith will be forwarded!  Your godly reaction will be rewarded!  Your climb to higher spiritual heights will be renewed with a greater sense of confidence!  You God-consciousness will be awakened!  Your day shall be better, come what may!  One more side note: God is not too far that He will not be able to see everything you do today!  Love you, my friend!  Be blessed!

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.” (Psalm 24:1)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
