WEAR YOUR COLOR THIS WEEKEND

“Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” (Ephesians 4:24 NLT)

Skipping through the TV channels on a work break, I got to the home décor station.  A guest designer was talking about the psychology of colors.  I did not watch the show, opting to see what was going on in the world of sports.  However, that topic, “the psychology of colors” stayed on my mind.  I remembered the first coat that I got to choose on my own in the fifth grade, a red car coat.  I remembered my first car that I purchased in 1967, a red 1965 mustang for $1500 dollars.  I looked at the present-day accent wall in my dining room.  Yes, it is red, a deep red, but still red.  The two remaining sweaters in my modest wardrobe include a red sweater and a maroon sweater.  The latter I will keep in the red family of colors.  Like you, I pay special attention to the words in red in the Bible; words spoken by Jesus.

After thinking about all these things, I went to search on the internet about the psychology of colors.  It turns out, according to “Color Meanings” by Jacob Olesen, “Red is the color of passion and energy.  Red draw attention like no other color.  Red radiates a powerful presence and energy that motivates us to take action.  Red is ubiquitously used to warn and signal caution and danger.”

I thought further, only this time I looked at the color red through a spiritual prism.  I thought about the passion of Christ and how His energy persisted in doing good, even when the human part of our all God and all man Savior experienced what it means to be physically tired,  But tiresomely, he continued His mission.  I thought about how Christ drew attention wherever He went and how He took advantage of every opportunity to teach, heal, and demonstrate the love of God.  I thought about all the power that Christ has; all power.  I thought about His power over temptation and all creation.  I thought about all power in heaven and earth that is in His hands.  I thought about His actions as He was motivated by His obedience to the Father to die on an old, rugged cross for you and for me.  I thought about the red crimson blood, His blood that was shed for the remission of our sins.  Of course I thought about how Jesus warned us about building our lives on the solid rock as opposed to sinking sand.

Finally, still thinking about colors.  I thought about how students attending games put on their colors and fill the stands, excited to be present at athletic events at the high school and college level.  And that is when I came to this concluding message for you.  It is always “game time” for you as a Christian.  So while you should obviously wear your red color every day, convincing people that you have been washed in the blood of the crucified one and you have been redeemed, I want to encourage you this weekend to put on your “color.”  Put on Christ!  The radiation of the Christ in you will help someone else move from danger to delight in the lord!  Put on your color.  Have a great Saturday and of course, don’t forget to assemble with the saints tomorrow, spiritually, and figuratively wearing your color.  Be blessed!

“But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” (Romans 13:14 NASB)

Still committed to the climb,
