A BETTER HOUSE

During my time watching HGTV shows, I learned that a house is not just a house, really. I learned that there are various types of houses: Brownstone houses, Cape Cod houses, Cottage Style houses, Colonial houses, Craftsman houses, Farmhouses, French Colonial houses, Mediterranean houses, and Mid-Century houses, just to name a few. This is very different than how I looked at houses when I wanted to move my family from a four-bedroom townhouse 32 years ago. For me, a house was just a house. Eventually we were blessed to purchase a bi-level house.  We did not give a lot of thought to style, we just wanted to move to “a house.” Not and “A-Frame,” not an “Art-Deco” house, but just “a house.”

At the time, any house big enough to hold our large family was seen as good enough. Now, three decades later, I see my house was not built perfectly. Watching the home decorating shows and flipping houses episodes helped me come to that conclusion.

I once was bling, just wanted “a house.” But now I see!  I see that all the rooms are not centered. I see that the cookie-cutter construction approach could have been substituted with some creativity and clever designs employed, using the same space. What else do I see? I see that the materials used could have been of a higher quality. The main door was actually an interior door and not an exterior door. We live in a flood zone and the sewers system was not big enough to handle heavy rains for the subdivision. That means lower-level flooding once or twice a year. Thank God they are finally putting in a new sewer system that will help avert the flooding.

Here are a couple pieces of advice. Today, if you are looking for a home on this earth, do your homework and know what to look for so you will buy a better house. However, let me inform you that when it comes to looking for a home to spend an eternity, you need not look any further than to the Lord. The Lord’s house has stood undisturbed since eternity. The Lord’s house has no defects and is located where things that can ruin a home are present. The Lord’s house has plenty of light, emanating, radiating from the throne of our gracious God. The Lord’s house had plenty of good rooms. Concerning the Lord’s house, you will never have to look for another house and you will never find a better house. Where else can you find a house like the Lord’s house, as described by Jesus in today’s closing verse?

Reflect on what you are about to read!  Rejoice about it!  Render praise unto the Lord believer for what is waiting for you when you relocate from mortality to immortality! What’s waiting? A place in a better house.

Friend, be God-conscious today!  Be Christ-centered today!  Be thankful!  And of course, “Be blessed!”

“Don’t let this rattle you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking.” (John 14:1-4 The Message Bible)
