A CERTAINTY IN CHANGING TIMES

The speed by which technological innovations bring about change is amazing. Cars that drive themselves. Television is on twenty-four hours; the screen never going black. We’ve moved from lighting the stove to air fryers, microwaves, and other appliances. Telephone booth on one or two corners near the place where you are, they have been replaced by cellphones that are with you wherever you are. I have to say, “But the cost is much different!”   Young children can write code, but tire at being requested by their teacher to write 4-5 sentences. Yes, we live in changing times. Homeowner watchdogs need to form a union because they are being replaced by security systems that by the time I finish writing this meditation, new models will have been introduced. Go into a restaurant and see any number of people sitting at a table and you will observe that most of them are on their cellular devices. The outgoing Governor of the state in which I live said at a luncheon yesterday, “Let’s get back to being social without the media,” alluding to how social media platforms has reduced valuable social interactions. Do you remember typewriters at the workplace and the need for carbon copies and an ongoing need for additional file cabinets and storage rooms? Well times have changed, and computer technology advances so quick that it is hard and hardly cheap to keep up with all the newest devices. Storage of info is somewhere in the “cloud.” Change is inevitable. One colleague once said, “Everything changes, but change itself.” Think about it, for it is almost true.

From a social perspective things have changed too! Modesty has been redefined. Words that would never be uttered allowed can be found in the dictionary and even kids will defend their legitimacy after being sanction by a supervising adult for saying one of those words by saying, “That’s not a bad word!” Modern day work clothes are no different than weekend clothes. I’m not sure if people I see have on their outfit for the day or if they went out in public in their pajamas.

I could go on, but I’ll just give one more. Young adults are visibly absent in the place where saints gather together, that is, in our local churches. While they may be “virtual members,” they are virtually missing out on the benefits of being in the assembly of the saints and involved in ministries. Not only are they missing what I just mentioned, but they are missing out on a growing relationship with the One who was sent from above, born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth, and used “Capernaum as His home office; the One who gave His life for us on Calvary, the One who the grave could not hold, the One who sent us the Holy Spirit, the One who makes this life easier in the midst of changing times, and if we come to Him by faith, we can spend eternity, time forever, with Him.

The one certainty in changing times is Jesus. I don’t know about you, but I agree with all who say, “I just can’t live without Him!” Have a great day my friend! Pass this one on to some backslider, someone who needs the backing of the One with all power in His hands, or someone who needs Jesus to have their back! He is changeless in the midst of change, a certainty in changing times. Love you! Be blessed!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 NASB)
