BE REMEMBERED

“Good people will be remembered as a blessing…” (Good news Translation)

We continue you with the “Be” theme this morning. Your charge today is to live in such a way that you will be remembered for the good that you have done in the lives of others. Created a good and excellent memory for someone.

Saturday, I received a Christmas card from a man who has and still is accomplishing remarkable things in the fields of engineering and technology.  I have not seen him or heard from him since he was a high school student between 1976 and 1979 when he was in a program called MEAP.  MEAP stands for Minority Engineering Advancement Program.  When I received the holiday greeting card, it made me feel great!  After decades, I had been remembered. It is good to be remembered.  Hopefully, I was remembered because I was a blessing in his life.

Last year, around this same time of the year, I received a call from another former MEAP student who just wanted to thank me for impacting her life and keeping her on a path where she had become an engineer with NASA.  It is good to be remembered as a blessing.

Granted, we may touch the lives of many people and never know if they recognize that we were a blessing in their lives.  I think of my former students who are psychologist, professors, prominent entrepreneurs, professional engineers, principles, primary leaders of causes to help society, and even those who have become preachers of the gospel and pastor churches much larger than the one I pastor.  But listen!  Whether I am remembered by them or not is not particularly important. It is inspiring, but it is not of the greatest importance.  What is important is that I lived most of my life, not all because that I, like you perhaps, do not have a perfect past, but I have tried to live in such a way as to have an undeniable, unquestionable, without a doubt, a life-changing impact on people of all ages.  I have tried to live, not looking for accolades, but looking to accomplish being one of the good people who will be remembered as a blessing.

That’s my challenge to you this morning in this “Be” series, “Be Remembered.”  In other words, live such that you will be remembered as a blessing to others.  Create some good memories of how you have touched somebody’s life. Have a wonderful Wednesday.  Oh, yes!  Speaking of “Be,” be God-conscious, and be Christ centered! Hmmm!  I could have saved that challenge for a separate, short meditation.  But of course, that was not to be.  But my friend, of course, be blessed!

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
