CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” (Source: Quotes about “Appreciating the Little Things”)

In the dining room on a small table, there sits a small, unique, wooden calendar.  The calendar has three knobs on each side, used to change the month, day, and year.  My wife faithfully changes it every day.  I don’ know what comes first in her daily routine, but this, along with opening the back door curtains in the kitchen, have to fall near the top of the list of things to do.  Well, I should take that back.  Kneeling to pray in the living room comes first.  I digressed from where I was going.  Let me get back on track.  One day the second knob on the aforementioned calendar would not move, hence the date could not be changed.  Some of the first words that came out of her mouth that day were, “The calendar is not workingThe scroll is not moving.”  I was relaxed, but she was perplexed.  I was ready to get rid of it, but she was ready to repair it, or should I say, “get it fixed.”  Now I am not technical at all, possess no mechanical skills.  Oh, I have a tool bag and it is filled with tools, but if they were animated, they would probably complain about being in the dark so long.  Nevertheless, seeking to put out the disappointment that found its origin in my spouse’s perplexity, I started trying to fix it.  I took it apart, so much so that I was sure that it would have to be trashed.  However, I kept working on it.  I disassembled it and assembled it back together.  I was so proud of getting it fixed that I celebrated with a vocal “Thank you Jesus!”  Yes, in all things give thanks, even the small things.

Many times we overlook celebrating the small things and concurrently, we neglect to thank the Lord for those small things.  Well, let’s change that right now!  Not later my friend, but right now!  Thank Him for waking you up this morning!  Don’t take anything for granted.  Thank Him, as we say, for the activity of your limbs and being in you right mind.  While we may be afflicted by certain illnesses, thank Him for your medicines and for the wellness you do have!  If your pinky finger was aching last night, than Him for the fact that it is all well this morning!  Celebrate the small things!  Thank Him even if you only had a little breakfast, yes, thank Him for the food on your table!  Thank Him that you were able to move from one room to another, one way or the other.  Celebrate the small things!  Thank Him for the glass of water you drank!  Celebrate now!  Thank Him that when you walked to your car, you got to it without stumbling or falling!  If you did fall, thank Him that you were able to get back up or there was help available to get you up!  Thank Him for the small text that said, “I love you.”  Thank Him that He controlled your tongue when needed and when something needed to be said, God blessed you to say it without offending anyone!  You spoke in love, and with the right pitch, the right rate of speech, the right tone, and the right volume!  Celebrate!  If you are not confined to staying in, thank Him when you get out of your car and walked to the door of your destination!  That in itself is really a miracle!  Celebrate the small things and thank God for everything!

Have a great day!  Oh, please thank Him, not me, for starting you on your way in a celebratory fashion!  Be blessed!

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (I Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
