“Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17 Common English Bible)
This Monday, instead of reading a Monday Short, how about taking a short quiz that we can relate to Christian Ethics. I adapted it from an ethics quiz developed by Dr. Bruce Weinstein in 2011. Are you ready! I’m sure you will get a perfect score, selecting the right answer.
However, let me ask you to so something when you are done. Go beyond the questions posed on this quiz and evaluate yourself in terms of Christian Ethics. If you are asking, “What do I mean by Christian Ethics,” I am referring to doing the right thing; conducting oneself in alignment with the scriptures and living like a Christian ought in all facets of life; not just when fellowshipping with the saints. The quiz:
- You notice that your friend Heather has posted a new picture of herself on Facebook in which she is smoking a bong with one hand and holding a bottle of vodka in the other. What would you do?
- Tell her you don’t think this photo is a good idea.
- Don’t say anything about it to her.
- “Like” the photo.
- Copy the photo to your hard drive and use it against her if she ever double-crossed you.
- You’re having lunch at a restaurant and overhear two colleagues Bob and Ray, talking about a client with whom your business is having difficulty. They mention the client by name as well as specific information about the problem. What would you do?
- Approach them and mention concerns about confidentiality.
- Ignore it.
- Tell your supervisor what you witnessed.
- Record your colleagues with your cell phone’s video camera and post the clip on YouTube.
- You take your twelve-year-old son to the movies. At the box office you see a sign that says, “Children up to eleven: $6.00. Adults $12.00.” The movie theater’s management thus considers your son to be an adult. What would you do?
- Ask for one adult and one child ticket.
- Ask for two adult tickets.
- Give your son the money and have him ask for a ticket.
- Ask your son what he thinks you should do, and then do what he suggests.
- An employee you supervisor comes to work late, spends a lot of time shopping online, takes long lunches and coffee breaks, and leaves early. A few months ago, you fired someone for doing the same thing. This person, however, is the daughter of a close personal friend. You’ve talked with her several times about her conduct, but the problem continues. What would you do?
- Fire her.
- Ignore it.
- Talk with her again and tell her this is her last chance to straighten up.
- Ask your friend (her parent) to talk with her.
- You wake up on a workday with the flu. What would you do?
- Stay at home and rest.
- Stay at home and work.
- Go to work but avoid socializing with people.
- Go to work but socialize only with the people you don’t like.
I hope this stirred up some thoughts about how we should be models of not only ethical behavior, but Christian Ethics! Have a good start to your week! Be blessed!
