“Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. For by it the people of old gained approval.” (Hebrews 11:1 NASB)
Okay, so you won’t misconstrue, misunderstand the meaning of the title above, let’s get you thinking right, instantly, immediately, with an initial comment. This meditation has nothing to do with comparing one individual’s faith with another’s for the purpose of elevating one person and putting down the other person’s faith. Instead, the purpose is to highlight the fact that the biblical definition of faith, as you read in the opening verse, is unchanging. Now, with that preliminary thought presented, let us proceed.
At our church we have three Bible Study classes, all virtual and strategically scheduled on various days to expand the opportunities for interested members to engage in studying God’s word. In the Wednesday class this week, as we are going through The Gospel According to Mark, verse by verse, participants presented their choice of the individuals named in Hebrews 11 who they believed had a comparable faith, similar to that of Bartimaeus, one of the blind men healed by Jesus. There were several individuals named from the chapter well-known as the “Hall of Faith, and the reasons for each selection was excellent!
One member, who I will just call Sis. LT, she chose Sarah. Sarah is mentioned in the closing verse, the one Sis. LT used to justify her selection of Abraham’s wife. As she discussed her choice, she made a statement that I feel is worth sharing. I just could not keep it to myself. So, with her permission, I am sharing it with you, my friend. For I believe it will be beneficial to you more than once on your Christian journey. Here is what she said, “Sarah believed God’s promises even when her body said it was impossible.” She added, get this now, “It makes sense to believe beyond what makes sense.”
Think about Sis. LT’s words! Have a great day! And as you go through the day, walking by faith, be God-conscious and Christ-centered. Raise those characteristics to a crescendo of praise on Resurrection Morning when you attend church tomorrow! Be there! Be blessed!
“By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised.” (Hebrews 11:11 NASB)
