“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB)
Years ago, not that far back, you entered the sanctuary of several churches and catching your eyes were the familiar words in the opening verses, painted or mounted on the wall above the pulpits. After finding a pew with enough empty seats to fit your family, the deacons would hold devotion. Next, there was a call to worship, followed b the procession of the choir, marching in with seemingly, rehearsed, rocking steps, moving side to side, and they would sing “One step. One step. All you have to do is take one step and He will do the rest, the rest, the rest.” Just like the Proverb verses above, those were familiar words too. Both the verses and the choir’s processional singing were in agreement, encouraging us to trust God, take action based on His words, and depend on Him to do the rest. That is, that which we cannot do alone.
This morning, as you enter the sanctuary, you may not see those words on the walls of contemporary sanctuaries or embossed on stained glass windows. You may not hear the heavenly voice of the choirs proceeding to the choir stand. But one thing that you should remember once you take your seat, are the familiar words in Proverbs and in the processional song of olden days. Take the step! He will do the rest! Be blessed!
