“We have to fight to keep our faith. Try as hard as you can to win that fight.” (I Timothy 6:12 Easy-to-Read Version)
If you are a Baby Boomer, or if you are younger, and have watched the channel that broadcasts classic movies, you probably have viewed the old version of King Kong. There is a scene in the movie where King Kong is fighting a gigantic dinosaur. I believe it was a T-Rex. It was a long fight, King Kong against his big attacker, and it reminded me that we too will find ourselves fighting the bigs during life. Big problems big obstacles, big temptations, big tests of our faith, big challenges, big adjustments in life, big changes, big moments where things did not turn out like we had hoped, and many other bigs.
I learned something from King Kong’s moves in this fictional movie that made Baby Boomers, look around with concern for safety when they were children somewhat scared by this make-believe story on the silver screen. I’m going to get back on the subject in a second, but it seemed like every time that movie aired, usually annually, on TV in black and white, my father would send me to the corner mailbox located at the end of the block on street named Elmira. It was just five to six houses to the corner, but it seemed like it was a much longer distance after watching the movie. I took the journey to the mailbox with my heart beating fast, my eyes looking above the trees that lined the streets, and my feet quickly moved progressively from a slow walking pace to as if I was a frontrunner, leading an Olympic race.
What I am writing perhaps has you thinking about what I wrote about a few days ago, referencing David’s victory over Goliath. So, I am convinced that the Lord wants me to drive home the point, “When you are fighting the bigs, fighting what looks like it will get the best of you, realize that you must fight on, keeping your faith. Fight as hard as you can to win and realize that you have One who will aid you in your effort.” Don’t give up my friend, regardless of how gigantic your big problem or prevailing, persistent predicament may be in your eyes. Remember our God is the epitome of big. Remember the old children’s song, ‘My God is so mighty. My God is so big. There is nothing my God cannot do?” Take a trip down memory lane and remember those words and fight on, trusting in the Lord, as you are fighting the bigs. Be blessed!
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loved us [so much that He died for us]. For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39 The Amplified Bible)
