“And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote)
For you who are new recipients of Mark Writes mediations, I try my best to issue a “Monday Short” version every Monday. This gives you the needed time to go back over the message God sent to you by your pastor yesterday. So, adhering to the “Monday Short” commitment, continuing the practice, I have just a couple of relevant things to write to you this morning.
First, undoubtedly on this Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, you will hear many expressions about freedom, quotes from a great man. I included one in the place generally reserved for the opening Bible verses. Second, in case the words of One who came before Dr. King, a greater Person, are not spoken in your hearing today, let me share them in the closing verse as it relates to freedom. We should always refer to King…King Jesus, right? Now, don’t make this just another day or holiday or day off! At the minimum, give some thought to the concept called freedom and the rights and responsibilities that come with being made free. Be blessed!
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32 King James Version)
Still committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
