I was hanging four pieces of framed art on the living room wall; two 5×7 pieces on one side and two 5×7 pieces on the other side. The design idea was to have a perfect, symmetrical arrangement. I made my décor goal harder than it should have been. You see, I depended on my eyesight, as opposed to measuring the placement places on the wall or using the red-light feature on the smart phone to determine where to place my nails. Of course, there was no problem on one side of the wall, were I put the first two wall hangings. The problem came on the other end. Even with my trifocal glasses on, I could not get the framed art on that side to line up perfectly, not even after several attempts. The unevenness could be quickly detected by anyone who looked at the wall, even a child. Eventually, after making several puncture holes, also easy to see; holes made as I moved the pieces of art up and down, I had a bright idea. I decided to get some bigger pictures to hang on the wall and cover them up. It was costly, but the holes were covered up. Yes! The holes were still there, but they were hidden from view. It looked perfect, but the imperfections were just hidden from view.
One day, when someone decides to take over the decorating responsibility in the house, those holes covered by the strategy of getting a bigger picture will be visible. After all, the damage was not corrected. The damage was just unseen. Oh, if the segment of the walls behind the pictures could talk. Of course they cannot, but I can talk to you in an effort to make my sharing of my décor experience applicable to your walk with the Divine.
When it comes to our lives and we try to use the “getting a bigger picture” strategy; in other words, when we try to hide our sins from the human eye, that does not work. You see, our Father in heaven sees the “holes” in our spiritual walls, and while our walls, referring to our sanctified presentation of ourselves to the world, look okay, the holes, better known as our sin, is still there. Furthermore, the damaging effect of our hidden sins on ourselves, others, our ability to be His witnesses, and the call of Christ to follow Him, that damaging effect is still there. Good news! There is there a solution! Yes, simply fix the “hole.” Yes, make some adjustments and adorn your spiritual wall, your sanctified, dedicated, witnessing life with holiness, casting away the “holes” that so easily entangle us. Granted, that takes effort, but as a result of your effort, the beauty of the Lord in you will be true and your days in this life will be aligned with truth and righteousness.
Have a great Tuesday. Take your “decorator toolbox,” filled with praying, the word, and a heart that is submissive to the Lord. Stay God-conscious and Christ centered! Be blessed!
“Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let’s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking only at Jesus, the [a]originator and perfecter of the faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NASB)
