GROWING AIMS

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Romans 12:1-2 The Message Bible)

It wasn’t another typo. I didn’t dictate “Growing Pains” and the automated writing feature, not hear my words accurately, trying to function like the teleprompter or caption feature that I continually use at my house. No sir! No ma’am! This meditation is about continuously aiming to reach higher heights of spirituality in our Christian walk. It’s about “growing aims!” It is intended to reinforce that we can never stop aiming to grow; never stop reaching for perfection and therefore achieving excellence. Listen, we all must set aside time daily for some Christian education with the aim of being transformed by the renewing of our minds.

In the past I have received inspiration from reading the sayings imprinted on the Splenda packets that I occasionally use to sweeten my morning coffee. The manufacture needs to print some packets that are strictly aimed at moving us to continue living as a Christian ought, and consequently, every day we will start ought to aim to not only live as we should but aiming to be better than we were the day before. The sugar substitute company could produce a whole 200   with sayings intended to help us start our days. If I had any say in the business, a clearly marked, optional carton would be filled with 365 packets that are printed with the same, identical message that will speak to the user personally. The saying I am referring to, appropriate for every user, every single day of the year is as follows. “Today, you need just a little bit more Jesus.” I know the tendency might be to say that someone in your house surely needs that type of packet. But get that out of your mind and let the packet speak to you!

My packaging strategy would promote Christian growth, and the words that I just mentioned would perfectly reflect the words composed by J.M. Stillman in 1878, “I want to be more like Jesus and follow Him day by day. I want to be truthful and faithful, and every command obey.”

So, in the absence of that reminder, let me read the verse two verses on this meditation today, tomorrow, and after that, more frequently! Read them now! Stay God-conscious and Christ Centered! Ask the Holy Spirit to help you too! Be blessed!

“And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross daily [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].” (Luke 9:23 The Amplified Bible)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
