“The Lord will make you the head (leader) and not the tail (follower); and you will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you listen and pay attention to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I am commanding you today, to observe them carefully.” (Deuteronomy 28:13 The Amplified Bible)
The coin toss occurs right before the kickoff at football games determining which team would receive first and who would kick-off to start the game, as well as which goal a team will defend initially. The skilled official charged with this task tosses the coin in the air. If you follow the coin, you can visually trace the coin’s a perfect line, reaching a peak and plummeting to the ground! It lands on the front side of the coin (heads) or the back side of the coin (tails). The coin tossing pre-game component may seem ceremonial, but it is more strategic and tactical. It is a crucial, pivotal moment and it can possibly decide the outcome of the game.
Over the course of 57 Super Bowls, on source cited that the coin toss landed heads 30 times and tails, 27 times. Heads has the advantage, but the winning margin is very close.
Here’s the point, the application, making the accurate, aforementioned paragraphs above an analogy for a question that the Almighty wants to ask you today. At the start of this day, are you going to call “heads” by being a leader in living like a Christian ought, or are you going to call “tails, be being a “follower” of worldly advice that is not in alignment with God’s word? What’s it going to be, “heads,” or “tails?” Will you barely win? Will the margin be close, too close for comfort, speaking in terms of the Lord above being comfortable, pleased with your doings? Think about it and make the call? Call “heads!” Lead by example. Make the winning call! Win the day!
Now I was going to stop with that last sentence and bless you. However, I was moved to have us explore this “heads” and “tails” analogy a little more. Here we go. If you view the world as having two teams competing, the world versus the church, who do you think is winning in these areas: (1) appropriate church attire, (2) church attendance, (3) men being active in the church, (4) stewardship, and (5) church music? Tip: Be careful regarding the last area. For if you are just listening to the instrumental versions of church songs, you may start wandering did you have your radio on the right station! You can smile, but really, yes really, I’m being quite serious. Who is the head and who is the tail?
Have a fantastic Thursday! Stay God-conscious and Christ centered! Go on now! Get the victory! You do want to win don’t you! Well, perhaps the coaching found in the closing verse will help. Be blessed!
“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT Version)
