HIDDEN FIGURES

“You are the light of [Christ to] the world.  A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” (Matthew 5:14-15 The Amplified Bible)

I’ m making up for yesterday’s meditation not being short.  In spite of the brevity, you will be blessed by the point I will try to make with as few words as possible.  (It’s not entirely up to me.)

It is Black History Month and as in previous years, a lot of prominent Black American and their predecessors of today’s generations, who made great contributions to the whole world in multiple fields and disciplines are brought to our attention via documentaries that catch our attention.  Every year, we learn more and realize that there are more hidden figures than portrayed in the movie with the same title.  We also think about how individuals in our family trees who impressively made it, with the help of God, through challenging times; through an era where rights were suppressed and privileges to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were suspended, stolen, or stymied.  No doubt about it, we are still in the midst of challenges to the concept of justice for all, freedom, and equality.  Even today, in our time, there are so many hidden figures.

I could go on and perhaps even talk about hidden figures in the word of God, but I will just close this Tuesday morning, by challenging you to avoid being a hidden figure when it comes to walking by faith and trusting in the Lord.  Don’t be a hidden figure, regardless of your ethnicity, race, national origin, or economic status!  As a believer, you are the light of the world!  Therefore, let your light shine today!  Don’t be a hidden figure in light of your God-given purpose.  Be blessed!

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 KJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
