HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU DO IT?

“But if you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice—you will be blessed by God in what you do.” (James 1:25 Good News Translation)

If you think I am getting too personal with you, specifically you, you are right.  In a righteous way, I am!  But read on!

Here is a quote from Genius Beauty. It says, based on a study conducted by some British sociologists, “It was found that the average man looks in the mirror 23 times per day while women only 16 times.”  While reading this some readers today will respond, “Who would have thought that?”  A few will just have an abbreviated response, “See!”  Others will respond, “I could have told you that!”  Another group of readers this morning will respond, “And they are always rushing us to get out of the mirrorNow!  Go figure!”  You can easily guess, perhaps, the gender of the last group.

Based on the numbers reported by the social scientists above, I would project that on a weekly basis, the average man’s number for looking in the mirror exceeds 161, and I say that because I can only guess, not admitting any guilt, that men spend more time in the mirror on the weekends for one reason or the other.  The same mathematical formula and the same rationale can be employed in determining mirror time for women.  But let’s just stick to straight math, multiplication, seven times sixteen, and project that the weekly number of times women looking in the mirror is 112 times.  To all the brothers reading this meditation this morning, let me say one thing.  Look! I know math, but I also know when to stay in my lane.  Smile!

Now what I am about to ask you now is entirely in my lane as a pastor.  Here it is?  How many times a day do you look into God’s word?  Okay, let me modify my question.  How many times a week do you look into God’s word?  Here is a follow-up question.  When you do look into God’s word, taking a good look at yourself in comparison to what God’s word shows you?  Think before responding, but then, with integrity, answer the questions I have placed before you!  Have a terrific Thursday!  Be blessed!

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.’” (James 1:23-24 NKJV)
