IN THE MIDST OF MOURNING

“Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4 KJV)

To be forthright, I believe God led me to this morning’s meditation because a couple of our faithful members recently lost a loved one; one in the immediate and one in an extended family. However, this is not of my own initiative by which I am writing, for I believe God is sending a specific message for a specific purpose this Monday morning. Let’s see!

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. That is what Jesus taught us in The Beatitudes. Of course, when you look at the depth of His words, realizing every time Jesus speaks to us in His word, He says something profound, something deep, and you discover much more than if you just merely skim over His words.  Here are some of the things I see, after reading Matthew 5:4: (1) When you figure out your mourning is because you are poor in spirit, lost and low, and you level with your need to come to Jesus, you will find comfort beyond comparison. A comfort that reaches all the way to eternity. Nothing can beat that level of comfort! (2) When you empathize, sympathize and mourn with others in their time of loss, you will be comforted when you experience loss. (3) This verse points you to Jesus in your everyday living. How so? Let me tell you. Reading the cited verse, you realize the brevity of life. and you can decide to reach out to the Lord for comfort you as you go through troubling times, this troubled world, tough days and tough nights.  Yes, this verse will not only cause you to depend on Him, but it will move you to make the most of your days, trusting in the Lord and not leaning on your own understanding. (4) No one should be left to mourn alone. Share in others’ sorrow, and at the right time, remind them of the words below. (5) In the opening verse, Jesus’ words, lets us know that God cares for us, and His care will be shown by how He gives us peace beyond comprehension in those times that we find ourselves, seemingly paralyzed in a plunging state of mourning. (6) God equips us for all the times we must endure. (7) Finally, to offer a seventh takeaway, and thus I shall be complete in this message without stretching too far, know that I have faith that the ultimate comfort we will experience is for our souls when this life is over; while absent from the body, will be present with the Lord. We just sang a song in choir rehearsal Saturday, “When All God’s Children Get Together,” what a time, what a time it will be.

My friends, I’m praying today for those who have recently lost loved ones, mourning, sharing in their sorrow. You should do the same if you have the opportunity. This has been your Monday Short meditation, okay, longer than most Mondays, but it is meant to be meaningful. Bless others! And as for you personally, I pray that you are blessed to no matter what you are going through. The prayers of the saints are being sent up for you, and mind is included in the voices that are reaching the gracious throne of our God. Again, be blessed!
