IT’S NOT MY COMPULSION, IT’S MY CANVAS!

“We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work.” (John 9:4 The Amplified Bible)

Every day I change something in my house. I exchange the placement of lamps, furniture, décor accent pieces and wall hangings. Some might say it’s my compulsion, but I say in reference to my house, it’s my canvas. Yes, I think of my house, even unused rooms, as an unfinished work of art and my unseen paint brushes are my visual prism, my perceptive minds imagination, and my perpetual desire to make the best out of what I have.

I try to create depth and volume like Rembrandt and capture a symmetry similar to that used Da Vinci to convey order and consistency. I try to use colors like Rothko over my entire house. Remember, my house is my canvas.

I have another canvas, one much bigger than my house. That canvas is the world and my goal every day is to change the painting called “Humanity with my Christian values that are intended to purify, perfect, protect, and preserve. In regard to this canvas, my work is always an uncompleted piece, and the unfailing labor is unending in this life.

You may not view decorating in your house in the same way that I do, but you too must share the same compelling attitude towards the bigger canvas, referring to the world or the earth. Afterall, you are the salt of the earth. So, let us commit to continuing the work daily, with a sense of urgency. If you are hesitant to commit, hear the words of Christ speak to you in the closing verse. Be blessed!

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people.” (Matthew 5:13 NASB)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
