IT’S YOUR SEASON TO BE BLESSED

“You (God) have defined and established all the borders of the earth [the divisions of land and sea and of the nations]; you have made summer and winter.” (Psalm 74:17 Amplified Bible)

Before reading on, stop and reflect on the verse above.  I’m sure that you realize that God is still God.  And being God, He is still in the blessing business.  Think about this!  Now read on!

While most people have their favorite season, we must recognize that the title above is applicable for any season of life.  Yes, it is your season to be blessed.  Regardless of where you live geographically, and what you prefer personally,  this proclamation is especially true in terms of where you are spiritually.  However, personal choices will determine the degree to which you will be blessed.  Read the previous sentence one more time before moving on.

Let’s look at some comparisons.  The Spring season is characterized by the movement from Winter dormancy to a new season vibrancy.  Plant life sprouts and grows in preparation for the months of summer.  The days vary in terms of meteorological conditions, but Spring continues to run its course, refusing to relent from flourishing during its designated time.  Spring is not a one time thing.  This season comes every year.  The Spring season from a spiritual perspective can refer to that initial exuberance that characterizes a new believer’s coming to Christ.  It is a time where the interest in theological matters increases.  The person’s spirit is on fire with a zeal for growth.  Changes in one’s personal environment may happen, but in the Spring time of our spiritual life, individuals persistently press on, not showing any signs of surrendering to the conditions around them.  Patience to see what is produced by the end of the spiritual Spring season is accompanied by positive expectations; great hope.  Just as a side note, know that all believers, regardless of how long it has been since they came to the Lord, should maintain some of the characteristics seen in the spiritual Spring time.  Do this and you can realize, “It’s your season to be blessed.”

The Summer season benefits from the Spring season in that the growth that takes place become beautifully manifested.  It is a sight to behold, and it catches the attention of onlookers.  From a spiritual development perspective, the Summer season reveals the beauty of holiness as one’s sanctification or holiness is unmistakably on display.  The Fruit of the Spirit is obvious, and it stays around during the Winter season to ensure one perseveres through the challenges that the coldest season presents.  Just as a side note:  All believers should keep their temperatures on high and perhaps be motivated by the words of the song that says, “Set my soul on fire.”  Be motivated so you can make your mantra, on any day throughout the year applicable to you, “It’s your season to be blessed.”

The Fall season, also called Autumn, is where days grow shorter, and daylight’s reign on any given day are not as long.  Leaves fall to the ground, never to rise again.  As  they fall, however, they create a beautiful statement that attest to the handiwork of the Lord.  The colors of leaves vary and produce a final word before the dormant season of Winter takes center stage.  The spiritual Fall season differs in believers.  While we may have failings, we never fall from the grace of God.  However, believers do make a beautiful statement as they have progressed to the spiritual Fall season, and they attest to the fact that they are fearfully and wonderfully made.  While leaves cease to exist in most cases, the believer, even if he/she dies, yet shall they live.  When you believe this and go on through life with that living hope, clothed in unmovable confidence, during the fall season you will see your blessing.  Others can ascribe this saying to you, “It’s your season to be blessed.”

Finally the winter season shows up.  Winters can be tough depending on where you live geographically.  Many people move to locations where winter, with the change of seasons does not come with dormancy or the hibernation of animal life.  Winter does present some hope, from a meteorological perspective, in that the days start to grow longer in anticipation of Spring.  The hope for brighter days ahead exist.  Now from a spiritual perspective, the believer must not be lulled to sleep or live in a place of inactivity during their winter season!  No!  From a spiritual perspective, the hope that lies within should prompt believers to let their light shine each and every day.  Believers should remain active and act, no not act, but really live, literally, showing that they have faith; a faith that will not allow tough times to not take them down or down and out.  Rather their testimony topped with blessed assurance that the Lord will bring them through such times is shared joyously with others.  By doing this, believers can help convince others to come to Christ and have them join in the ongoing proclamation through it all, “It’s your season to be blessed.”

I have one last comment.  If you are thinking about your “seasons” in terms of your chronological status or better said, your age, I challenge you to remember your declaration you surely made in your lifetime.  That declaration that said, “I promised Him that I would serve Him until I die.”  So, regardless of your blessed years that have passed, years that the Lord allowed you to see, you can still be included in the group referred to in the saying, “It’s your season to be blessed.”  What else can I say on this Friday morning?  Let me think.  Oh yes, I have it!  Be blessed!

“May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.” (Ephesians 1:2 Good News Translation)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
