“Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with five covered porches. Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” Instantly, the man was healed!” (John 5:1-9a NLT Version)
This is your Monday Short meditation. It is intended to move you to recognize the power of asking. What if some of the great scientists and inventors in history never asked questions? What if Garrett Morgan had not asked how to minimize devasting auto accidents? Would we have the three-way traffic signal? What if Dr. Shirley Jackson, the first African American woman to earn a doctorate in nuclear physics had not asked questions that led to numerous developments in telecommunications space? Would we have had touch tone phones, portable faxing, caller ID, or call waiting? What if Jesus didn’t take the time to ask the man suffering from a long-time sickness, “Would you like to get well?” What if somebody had not asked you to try coming to church? Would you have found Jesus? Would you have the power that is available to you now, just a prayer away? Would you have changed for the better and be suited better to win others for Christ? Asking is a powerful thing and can bring about positive results and make the world better too!
Recognize the power of asking! Acknowledge that asking can lead to someone’s spiritual healing. Accept the fact that by merely asking someone to try Jesus, there is a possibility that they will try Him and see that He will improve their life, and go further, and give them eternal life. How can you start this week? By just doing what the title says, “Just ask somebody!” Have a magnificent, marvelous, mighty good day! Be blessed!
