“Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).” (Psalm 55:22 Amplified Bible)
It’s Saturday morning, so you know I really won’t be too long, knowing that you have a lot to do to ensure nothing, absolutely nothing, will keep you from worship service tomorrow. Here is a short story and a succinct lesson
Short Story: Thursday morning, around 7:00 a.m., I went to a local fast-food restaurant to pick up some breakfast sandwiches. I drove through the drive-thru lane, put on my mask, paid the cashier, got my receipt and debit card back, and drove off, on my way home. I get to my house and push the garage door opener, pull into the garage, and reach over to the passenger seat to pick up the bag of sandwiches. Guess what? There was no bag. I looked on the floor in the event that It fell when I turned a corner, but it was not there. I left “IT” there! Immediately I’m off on another trip, maneuvering through the school bus stops and around the massive child drop off car line. I return to pick “IT” up. The customer service person knew exactly why I was there. I tried to play it off by saying I was too sleepy. He said with a touch of laughter, “You were thinking about your girlfriend.” He was wrong, I only have a wife, and I am sticking to my story. An extra trip took up time and expended energy, both which could have been avoided. That’s how it is when we mess up literally and spiritually, but that’s not our succinct lesson, just the short story.
Succinct Lesson: The songwriter had it right about “IT!” The lyrics say, “Take your burden to the Lord and leave “IT” there!” And to reinforce the message in the song, there is a repetitive part of the hymn that says in a concise command, “Leave it there! Leave it there!” What is burdening you this morning? Well whatever “IT” is, you need to follow the advice provided in the Scriptural references above and the song just referenced. Take “IT” to the Lord and leave it there! Unlike me and my breakfast sandwiches, you don’t have to go back and get “IT.” Think about this lesson and be at peace today. Remember the Lord’s Day Sunday! Alright? Well, have a nice day! Be blessed!
