LOOKING AT YOU

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honor and] glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 King James Version)

Here is a poem I wrote a while back, a few years ago. Perhaps it does not compare with influential poets of old like Homer, Emerson, or Poe, but it comes inspired from within, that I know. It may not have the cadence of modern-day artist, but for that I am glad, just as long as my cadence makes a little sense, and it moves you to action. Here we go, something to start your Monday.

What do others see when they look at you? What image, what perceptions comes to their view? Is it good or is it bad? Does the sight of you make them glad or sad? Do they look at you from what comes from a godly inside or look at you from a rebellious outside, based on what you do? Do they think you will never amount to anything, or do they think, “Surely you are going to achieve something?”

What do other see when they look at you? What image, what perceptions comes to their view? Do they see you a righteous one to be included, excluded or simply eluded? Do they see that you are confident, or do they see you as one who is just plain arrogant? Do they see one who can change and change for the better or does their sight may them give you no chance, thinking your change will be never?

What do others see when they look at you? What image, what perceptions comes to their view? Do they see the color of your skin, the texture of your hair, or merely the clothes that you wear? Do they see you clothed in righteousness or closed in unrighteousness? Do they see where you are coming from, or instead do they marvel at the new heights you are headed? Do they see your mistakes or see you acting confidently, knowing that you have been made clean by forgiveness, repentance, and have moved on after your wrong was regretted?

What do others see when they look at you? Let me alter the question so you can do a self-evaluation. “What do you see when you take an introspective view? What do you see when you look at you?

Now that you are done looking at you, examining yourself, what’s next? What are you going to do? Have a great week. Be blessed!

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? —unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” (2 Corinthians 13:5 English Standard Version)
