“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV)
Late Thursday night, after going to be about 10:10 p.m., I woke up, wide awake I grabbed the TV remote to get enough light to see what time it was according to the large clock on the bedroom wall. It looked like it was ten minutes to four o’clock a. Hence, being that I usually get up a couple hours earlier every day, immediately arose and hurried to get the morning meditation out for Friday. Again, I was thinking it was 4:10 a.m. I diligently did my work, delivered the meditations via email and didn’t neglect to post the meditation on the blog site. I look at the right-hand corner of my computer and it seems like the date and time are wrong. They weren’t! I was wrong! As they say, “putting two and two together,” I realized that that I had got up at 11:20 a.m. Thursday night, way too early, so says me. Blame it on my eyesight, expected insomnia, or even on my compulsion with being on time. But I looked at it differently, “He woke me up and started me on my way.” Or perhaps, “When He calls me, I will answer!” Maybe it could have put me in the frame of mind where I was being influenced by “Have thine own way Lord.” Whatever, right? I did not go back to bed after I discovered the true time. I could have because the Friday meditation had been sent out. Instead of going back to the comfort and warmth of my bed, I made the most of my time and wrote meditation drafts for Saturday and Monday. Only after that did I go to be for a couple of hours. I got up again and went to pick up breakfast for my wife and me, and then took a little nap. Actually, I did not get back up until 11:00, forty-five minutes before the Friday, virtual, Bible Study class. (Actually, I’m writing this in draft form for this coming Sunday, now today, immediately after the class.) I my estimation, I’m still making the most of my time. When I’m done with the draft, it is back to bed, unless the Lord says otherwise. He’s the boss of me.
Enough about me! Let me just ask you a question on this early Sunday morning: “Are you going to make the most of your time today?” If you said, “Yes,” I’m sure you were referring to God time and not golf time. I’m sure you were referring to worshipping time and not washing your car time or catching up time to wash the pile of clothes you ignored during the week. I’m sure you were talking about stopping at the house of God time and not staying in your house time, recognizing if for no other reason, it is a good time to praise the One who blessed you with a roof over your head! I’m sure you were referring to being in the special presence of our God time, in the presence of the One who holds you in His everlasting arms, and not the time to be in the special presence of that special someone who loves to hold you in his or her arms. I’m sure that you are not referring to sitting on the deck, relaxing time, but rather you are meaning you will be sitting on the wooden pew, readying yourself to hear a word from the Lord during church time! Are you going to make the most of your time today? Yes! Of course, you are! Be blessed!
Still committed to the climb,
Mark L. King
