At this time of the year, there is a lot of “new.” But most of the “new” soon, quickly, rapidly becomes “old.” There are new clothes that soon become old and worn, perhaps even after the first wash or dry cleaning. There are new cars that become old used cars as soon as they are driven off the dealer’s lot. There are newborn babies that quickly go from being seen as new joy to both new joy and new work. It gets old quick. But love prevails. There is new technology, Model 17 soon becomes outdated as Model 18 takes its place as the “must have” thing. There are new jobs where one starts out enthusiastic, but soon the enthusiasm wears off and one becomes discouraged, disenchanted, disinterested, and disillusioned. There are new commitments, call them New Year resolutions, but what was resolved becomes dissolved and the commitment fades before the second month of the year begins. There is even that new man or new woman that a person initially could not wait to see, but sometimes, now I said “sometimes,” the desired disappears or the love leaves, or in some case, thankfully it just levels off. In many cases, new does not last. I can hear Sis. Katie saying, “Ain’t that the truth.”
But there is one “new” that only gets newer as time goes by. “What is that new,” you ask. Well, I am so glad you asked. Let me answer you. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” Do you want to know one more thing about this magnificent, life changing “new?” Well, it never stops being “new.” If you doubt me, read the verse below. Have a fantastic first Friday of the year! Be blessed!
“There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.” (Philippians 1:6 The Message Bible)
