“You’ve been raised on the Message of the faith and have followed sound teaching. Now pass on this counsel to the followers of Jesus there, and you’ll be a good servant of Jesus. Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers.” (2 Timothy 4:6-10 The Message Bible)
A great number of people will make a New Year’s resolution to get fit, starting tomorrow. Many in this multitude who make this magnificent commitment to madly engage in physical fitness will get off to a good start, filling the parking lots of gyms, adorned in attire that is en vogue .But if you check the parking lot in February, there will be plenty of space to park and the newly purchased workout clothes will be stuck in a bedroom drawer. You know how it goes. The commitment to early morning workouts or afterwork time in the gym will come to a quick end. Daily exercise will be limited to required walking in the home, at work, while shopping, or going to the car. Well, that’s true for some.
Now if you want to achieve real fitness and get rid of what is referred to above as “spiritual flabbiness,” strive every day throughout 2026 to live a disciplined life in God. As the passage says, that will end up “making you fit both today and tomorrow.” If you start January 1 being God-conscious and Christ-centered in your living, and you stay committed, at the end of the year, December 31, you will have made significant progress. Others will notice, and that’s a good thing in terms of your witnessing responsibility.
As for me, I’m going to continue to work on my spiritual fitness and simultaneously do the work of ministry that the Lord called me to do. I’m not totally clear on what that might be, but where He leads, I will follow and fulfill the purpose He has in mind for me. However, this is the last Mark Writes meditation that I will write. Thank you for being a follower. I hope that some of the 2,200,250 plus words that I have published over the past nine years have impacted you in a positive way. My friend, here is a short, final benediction. Yes, you have heard it every day, so why change. Be blessed!
“I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (Philippians 3:12-14 NLT)
