“When you do something for someone else, don’t call attention to yourself. You’ve seen them in action, I’m sure— ‘playactors’ I call them—treating prayer meeting and street corner alike as a stage, acting compassionate as long as someone is watching, playing to the crowds. They get applause, true, but that’s all they get. When you help someone out, don’t think about how it looks. Just do it—quietly and unobtrusively. That is the way your God, who conceived you in love, working behind the scenes, helps you out.” (Matthew 6:2-4 The Message Bible)
Let’s thank God for those people who do the behind the scenes work for the church. And let’s also thank Him for those who do kingdom building work unseen by fellow church members. Well, we can stop thanking God yet! Thank God for the individuals in your church who are impacting the world by responding to the preached word and they personally make the word come alive in their unselfish, unrecognized, and unknown deeds. Thank Him for those who live like a Christian ought at work and play, witnessing undeniably by their godly behavior. Thank Him for the individuals that do more visitations than the Visitation Committee, either by phone or in person. And you know what? We should add a special thanks for those who may be shut-in, but they have not shutdown the ways they show love and minister to others; ministering in a variety of ways that don’t fall under any formal auxiliary work. I must be in a thankful mood today; truly grateful for those individuals who are not celebrated, not highlighted, and not recognized in the assembly of the saints; brothers and sisters in Christ who are not hindered nor halted by the lack of such attention. Thank God for those individuals who continually help their pastor by sharing resources to help fulfill his vision. Such individuals are heaven sent. If you are one of those many individuals I mentioned, know that I thanked God for you this morning! Keep this in mind my friend. If no one else ever celebrates you, or not once does anyone highlight your contributions to the expanding of the kingdom, or if many neglect to recognize all that you regularly do for Christ, know that the Father sees you and be assured He will reward you in secret. No one else will know when that happens, but you will! Keep doing the good things that He planted for you to do! Be blessed!
