“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (I Peter 2:8-9 NASB)
There was a time in all our lives that we looked at other people through the prism of privilege and, to tell the truth about it, we coveted their social status. We wanted to live in their “good neighborhood.” We were tired of walking and riding the bus, and we wanted a new model car if we had an older model that people referred to as a “humpty,” just like those so-called privileged people. We wanted to have so many clothes that we could rotate our outfits in such a way that we never wore the same outfit over a two-to-three-week span. We wanted to be like the “privileged people.” Look it did not matter how low or how high we were on the social-economic ladder, there were always other people who we considered “privileged.” You know I am right about it. We wanted our “own room” too! We wanted to buy so many lunch choices on the daily school menu that we could not finish eating before the bell rung, ending our lunch break. We didn’t want to carry our one sandwich on crumbly bread that would collapse if you don’t know hold it with a firm grip.0t. No! We wanted to be one of the “privileged” people.
We once overlooked the fact that we were blessed to have what we did have! We overlooked our blessings in more areas of life than one. I ask you again, “Am I right about it?” However, nowadays as a believer, your prism perspective in regard to “privileged” has changed.” You know you are privileged, and you have some heavenly privileges. You read the verses above! You are chosen! Privileged! You are a member of a royal priesthood! Privileged! You belong to a holy nation! Privileged! You are a person who is part of the people who are for God’s own possession! You have been entrusted with a purpose! Privileged! You can proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into the marvelous light! Privileged! Let me put it another way, now you are one of them…the real privileged people.
Therefore, now that you are one of them, thank God right now for your heavenly privileges! Thank God for His mercy! Thank God for His grace! Thank Him for all the ways that He has blessed you, year after year, day after day, and moment after moment! Thank Him all the way to worship service this morning, and when you get there, thank Him some more now that you are one of them! “Them” being the saints, the saved, those who the Lord has blessed and will bless through eternity! Enjoy service! Be like the Psalmist below since you are one of them. Let his words be your words. Be blessed!
“Bless and affectionately praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is [deep] within me, bless His holy name.” (Psalm 103:1 The Amplified Bible)
Still committed to the climb,
