“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.” (Psalm 22:3 NLT Version)
My radio station was tuned in to the gospel channel as I drove home from some errands Friday morning. A song came on that had the beat that reminded me of the R&B songs that were popular in the 1970s. I thought I had somehow switched to another channel, but checking the display, I had not. This made me think of “one.” Let me explain.
I have heard many times how talented people who made it “big time” as artists in the secular music world after they started singing in the church. I wonder if it just took “one” chord or “one” selection, or “one” appreciative applause from the congregation that moved them from the sacred to the secular.
Here are somethings I don’t have to wonder about regarding “one.” I believe it is wisdom and not wonder. “One” move in the wrong direction can bring some unwanted consequences. “One” date can derail one’s from a path of purity. “One” decision to cohabitate before checking out if the person would be an equally yoked mate will result in a court date. Just “one” night can lead to a lot that is not right. “One” uncontrolled word that rolls off a person’s tongue can ruin a personal relationship. Taking “one” chance without having our eyes open will make us blind to the danger that will follow. “One” Sunday where an individual decides to work at their hobby instead of worship in special presence of God can be the start of progressive drifting away from the church.
Back to wondering, I wonder if you stop and think about the impact of “one;” “one” choice, “one” act, “one” word, “one” sin, “one” thought, just “one” step away from the narrow path of righteousness, or “one” instance of stepping out of your identification of being members of a holy nation, a royal priesthood, and forgetting you are of a peculiar people, wonder just what thoughts would come to your mind.
This is your Monday Short meditation, so I will leave you to think about what you have just read. Possibly, as a result of your pondering, it will make a pretty, powerful difference in how serious you look at “one.” One last thing. When you have to deal with “one” and you need help, call on the Lord for direction and help! Have a great week! Be blessed!
“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” (I Chronicles 16:11 New International Version)
