PREQUEL, SEQUEL…WHAT ABOUT THE “QUEL”

“…for we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]—….” (2 Corinthians 5:7 The Amplified Bible)

Here is you Monday Short meditation, perfect for a holiday morning.  We know that a prequel tells the story before a particular event.  We also know the that a sequel is a continuation, telling what happens after a particular event.  But what about the “quel?”  What about the actual account of what is happening in between the prequel and the sequel?  I know!  Let me say it, before you do.  “I made up my own word in the English language for the purposes of this meditation,” but add it to your dictionary.  There is a purpose behind my creative liberty.

The prequel and the sequel for you and me are found in the word of an old hymn, “Amazing Grace, written by John Newton, I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see.”  Side note: Even if you don’t remember it from your church experience, you heard it every cowboy movie with a church gathering in the script, along with Rock of Ages.  Continuing now, the sequel even goes further in another verse in the same song, Amazing Grace, “When we’ve been there 10,000 years, bright shining as the sun, we will have no less days to sing God’s praise then when we first begun.”  All believers get the prequel and the sequel, and all of us our extremely thankful, thankful to the degree that mere words cannot explain how grateful we are for new sight and for no longer being lost.  But again I ask, “What about the “quel?”

Perhaps the opening and closing verses will help us individually, personally when it comes to understanding this word, “quel.”  Read them carefully and work on what will be recorded about your life, in between the prequel and the sequel of your story.  Enjoy your holiday!  Eat your barbeque!  Don’t forget why there is a Memorial Day.  One more time, don’t forget to work on your “quel” in the midst of your good times. Be blessed!

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.  Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message Bible)

Still committed to the climb,
