SIGHT FOR THE BLIND

“The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lord raises those who are brought down; the Lord loves the righteous.” (Psalm 146:8 Modern English Version)

I can’t remember where I heard the following quote last week, “There are none so blind as those who will not see first.”  But the truth of these words was so accurate that I had to search and find who shared such wisdom. I found out that a writer named John Heywood deserves the credit.

Here is how I reacted. First, instead of being critical and condemning of those who do not read God’s word to discover edifying truths, gaining new and improving their spiritual sight, I thought of people like you, believers who not only look into the word of God, but who study it as we are admonished in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (King James Version).”

After centering my thoughts of admiration for those who see the value God’s word as it applies to everyday living, people like you, only then did I think of those who could are akin to the audience whom the Lord addresses through His inspired word found in Jeremiah 5:31, “Listen, you foolish and senseless people, with eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear.” The former, you who acknowledge and act on the word of God are saints who have realized the profitability of God’s word, and you deserve applause, accolades, and the smiles of the Almighty. However, the latter, don’t need condemnation, but rather they need the showing of our compassion and constant encouragement to wise up and avoid the consequence of just being readers and hearers, but not doers of the word of God. In a kind way, manifesting a gentle spirit, we need to help them see the results of rejecting the fact that God’s word contains truths that will enhance their living in so many ways, from both an earthly and heavenly perspective.

So, here is what we should do. When the opportunity presents itself, at the opportune time, share your testimony of how the word of God constantly benefits you. Show some transparency and confess how you did not always see the positive impact of being a student of the word, but make sure that in a loving way that you reveal how you learned that God’s word reveals light that will keep one out of darkness, and ultimately lead them to the Light, which will cause them to say, “I once was blind, but now I see, was lost but now I’m found. Let’s carry out the work of our Savior, who included as part of His mission on earth, the recovery of sight for the blind. Let’s look for an opportunity today to help change someone’s life. Have a great day! Be blessed!

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah), because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy).” (Luke 4:18 The Amplified Bible)

Committed to the climb,

  1. That quote left me puzzled initially. Once the meaning was revealed to me, it made me realize how stubborn we are in accepting God’s truth as our way of righteous living. Our behaviors don’t change. Thank God for the light unto my feet; the word lights my way.

    1. Let Him keep ordering your steps! Others are following you as you travel down the path. Your walk looks pretty good so far! Keep it up!
