“SOUL HITS”

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 1:2 KJV)

Occasionally when working early in the morning, before the early news comes on and the sun finishes its nap, I take a break, grab a cup of coffee, and turn on the TV.  On more than one occasion I have watched the public broadcasting channel’s airing of shows aimed at selling CDs with soul hits from the 1970’s.  They have clips of multiple famous soloists and groups, music legends, and they take you back to days gone past.  It is refreshing to hear songs that are PG in nature, for the most part, and there is great artistry as opposed to a great amount of profanity and debauchery (immorality).  One morning, inspired by the PBS show, I jotted down a note to remind me to pass on some great “soul hits” found in the Scriptures.  So here are a few, taken from the word of God.  They are oldies and goodies, but they will never fade away.

  • And the Lord God formed  man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7 KJV)
  • “The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.” (Psalm 19:7a NLT)
  • “The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.” (Psalm 121:7 NKJV)
  • “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—” (Psalm 103:2 NIV)
  • “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.  He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.’ Psalm 62:1-2 KJV)
  • “The fruit of the [consistently] righteous is a tree of life, and he who is wise captures and wins souls [for God—he gathers them for eternity].” Proverbs 11:30 Amplified Bible)
  • “Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37 GNT)
  • “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28 ESV)
  • “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (Mark 8:36 NIV)
  • So, it is written [in Scripture], “The first man, Adam, became a living soul (an individual);” the last Adam (Christ) became a life-giving spirit [restoring the dead to life].” (I Corinthians 15:45 Amplified Bible)

I have given you ten “soul hits” to reflect on this morning!  But wait!  There’s more!  Check it out this evening in your personal Bible Study!  Be God conscious!  Guard your soul!  Be blessed!

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:8 NASB)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
