THAT OTHER PART GOT ME!

When he came back to His disciples, He found them sound asleep. He said to Peter, ‘Can’t you stick it out with me a single hour? Stay alert; be in prayer so you don’t wander into temptation without even knowing you’re in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there’s another part that’s as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.’” (Matthew 26:40-41 The Message Bible)

This is your Monday Short meditation! Last week I reached a chef recognition level on both Tuesday and Wednesday! And I was on my way to extending that level of cooking expertise three days in a row. This is what happened. Thursday, I had prepared the main dish of a meal that I take to another family on Thursday. Prepared? Yes! I mean, I marinated it, seasoned it perfectly, and I put it in the refrigerator before the noon hour.

All I had to do was to take it out of the fridge and put it in the oven to cook from 2:30 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. But I made a mistake! After putting in the over, I laid on the bed watching TV after, certain I could stay awake 45 minutes. However, fell asleep and I did not wake up until 4:00! That’s the time that I usually deliver Thursday’s meal, two counties away.  While part of me had been confident I could stay awake, the other part of me said, “No doing!” The meal was still edible, but not excellent. If I had been given a chef recognition award in advance for the week, it would have been snatched back immediately!  Let’s get to the point of this meditation.

Read the verses above again! Then pray that you will stay alert all week and not fall asleep as one of His disciples in this era. Let the eager and ready part of you be evident in all your behavior this week. Keep the other part, the lazy dog sleeping part at bay!  Things will come out better, if you do.  Have a great week! Be blessed!

Committed to the climb,

  1. Certainly there is truth in having two opposite behaviors tn our being. The thought of being as lazy as a dog sleeping by the fireplace did not portray an attribute for which I want to be remembered. Thank God I can count on Him to keep encouraged to stay eager and ready for anything He has for me.
