Because of our God’s deep compassion, the dawn from heaven will break upon us…” (Luke 1:78 Common English Bible)
The best part about waking up is not coffee in your cup, but it is that you woke up, recognizing that the Lord blessed you, let your days roll on a little bit longer. Delight in the fact that we are seeing a new day that we have never seen before. Say it with me like you mean it , “Thank you Lord for one more day in the land of the living!”
The seemingly age-old commercial about the best part of waking, leaving out the name of the brand intentionally; the best part of waking up was coffee in your cup. To be truthful, from a personal perspective, I have to have a cup of coffee in the morning! But while coffee is something that kick starts my morning, coffee is not what woke me up and started me on my way. Credit for being awakened to experience God’s creation and shower in His mercy and grace, that goes to the Lord.
Now since I influenced you to think about coffee, let’s talk about coffee with a God-consciousness objective in mind this morning. There are some people who like their coffee cold and some can drink it lukewarm. Not me! I need hot coffee! Experts say that coffee should be brewed between 195 degrees and 205 degrees and consumed at somewhere around 150 degrees. Look at how that works with most of us. We pour the coffee into our favorite cup, set it down on the table to let it cool, and while it is still piping hot, we start sipping on it. Whether at home or in the office, there are usually interruptions that make it necessary to either top off the coffee with a little more heated brew from the pot or we put it in the microwave to warm it up. From the view of many individuals, the cold coffee does not become effective and fails to forward that “Let’s get to it” disposition or mentality at the start of the day.
Do I have your attention yet? Here is what I want to ask you, using coffee as an analogy. Did your cup get filled yesterday when you worshipped the Lord? Did your cup almost run over as the word was poured into your being yesterday, Sunday? Several hours have passed by, between yesterday’s consumption of the word, right? It was hot yesterday, from a spiritual perspective, but what about this morning. Can you name the sermon that was preached? Can you, on a moment’s notice, tell what book of the Bible the sermon text was taken from? You took some notes, perhaps in a journal on even on the side columns of the page of your Bible. But can you reiterate for yourself what those notes you took said? Can you respond to anybody’s question, “What did you do yesterday?” by reviewing what was poured into the cup of your spiritual being? The best thing about waking up on Monday , aside from recognizing that it was the Lord who woke you up, is being able to do all those things. Like the hot coffee that grows cold as it sets on your table or desk, that specific word that God sent to you yesterday, it may need a little refreshing, a little warming up, or a revisit to the source, God’s word. That will make sure that word is effective in making you better today.
Good morning! Thank God for today! Get your coffee! But also revisit the word that was sent specifically to you yesterday. Your level of God-consciousness will be increased, and your day shall be more fruitful. Be blessed!
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NASB)
Still committed to the climb,
