THE CLOCKS

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV)

Some people wonder why there are so many clocks in my house. When asked about them, I quickly respond, noting that I have reduced the number of clocks inside the house by 30%. As of the writing of this piece, I only have 17 clocks inside the house. Yes, there is one outside, but I did not include it in my computation or calculation.  The person(s) not satisfied with my response rapidly retort, “You didn’t answer my question. Tell me why.”

There are multiple reasons, but I will just share three, as it relates to my house. First, I am a very time conscious person, usually arriving to a scheduled place to be early and not late. So, you see, the clocks keep me on schedule. Second, each timepiece was purchased to fit into a decorating scheme for particular rooms. Some rooms call for natural wood clocks, some for sage-colored clocks, some for black and white clocks, some for orange-clocks, some for farmhouse grey-colored clocks, and some for coffee-brown colored clocks. That’s two of the reasons. But I said I would share three, did I not? Well, let me be true to my word.

The third reason is symbolic, reminding me of various things, including: (1) There is a time for everything. (2) Make the most of your time. (3) Time is a blessing, for time is what makes up every new day where we typically proclaim, “The Lord woke me up this morning and started me on my way.” (4) Time doing nothing is time wasted. I need that reminder when I find myself tempted to take a little rest, more than, as Jesus once told His disciples, “for a while.” (5) Time, as the songwriter put it, “Time is filled with swift transition, naught of earth unmoved can stand. Build your hopes on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.” There is more symbolism, but I don’t want to take up more of your precious Saturday time.

Why? Because tomorrow is the time to assemble with the people of God at your local church. After all, Sunday is His special time, a time when we get a preview of heaven. You know that place of which we say, “When all God’s children get together, oh what a time that will be!”

Set your clock tonight, stand up when it goes off in the morning, place your feet on the ground, start getting ready to head out for church, in person preferred, unless virtual is your ONLY option, and show up early ready to raise your voices and hands in praise and excited, readied to be edified by the specific message that God has specifically for you. Enjoy your time today and especially tomorrow! Be blessed!

“See then that you walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise men, making the most of the time because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16 MEV)

Committed to the climb,
