THE CONFESSION

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (I John 1:9 NLT)

This is your Monday Short meditation. Saturday, at our church’s Leadership Council Meeting, Pastor M.R. King, the incumbent that will step in my shoes completely in September of 2025, headed the monthly meeting. When we were talking about facility issues, he mentioned that the part of the back door bar had been bent in and this was the second time it happened. Sitting in the back of the room, I raised my hand to speak. I confessed that I would take credit for one of the times because as I was moving a round table from the balcony to a downstairs classroom, unadvisedly alone, the table got away from me and slammed into the door. I added that I had inspected the door but did not see anything. Pastor said, “Well, you were trying to do the Lord’s work.” Jokingly I said, “I thought the saying was “If you see something, say something. Well, I did not see anything, so I did not say anything. The whole council, including myself laughed!  But they were forgiving!

It made me think about confessing our sins, minor or major, confessing our mistakes, mishap, and misjudgments to the Lord regularly. God sees everything. Whether we think it was not anything or not, He knows the truth. So, make sure in your prayer that you confess your sins, realizing that the Lord will forgive you, cleanse you and give you a new start. Don’t carry around any guilt.  Confess to Him!  Be blessed!

“If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—simply come clean about them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.” (I John 1:8-10 The Message Bible)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
