“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously—take God seriously.”(Micah 6:8 The Message Bible)
As a young HR Consultant, I was hired by a former boss who had started his own company, to write a book of job descriptions for various jobs in the State of Indiana. Each description had various components: a title, similar titles, purpose, a general overview, a list of specific responsibilities, and the catchall phrase that would let the reader know “other duties not listed in the above might be required.” It took me quite a bit of time to complete this project. Being one of my first private consulting jobs, I agreed to be paid per job description and not by the hour. The latter would have greatly increased the amount I was paid. But, as they say, “That’s water under the bridge” now, far in the past.
As you can tell by the content required, each job description was at least one page, sometimes extending into two pages. The number of words were, in my opinion, more than many. Yet, every word was necessary to accurately describe the job and communicate the expectations of persons in the position. Oh, so many words!
I was “The Consultant” in the title above. Now, let’s look at “The Creator,” and “The Christ.” They have a direct, distinct ways of saying things at times. “The Creator” summarized man’s job description for His people, including you and me, in a couple of sentences, as written by Micah, inspired by God, and presented to you in the chosen translation above. When we look at how “The Christ” issued “The Great Commission,” a job description for all believers as it relates to His expectations for us to be His witnesses, He summed it up in one sentence, as you see below. These are just a few examples. As you meditate this morning, you can think of more.
Wait a minute! I’m not done yet! Almost, but not yet! Whether you look at “The Consultant,” “The Creator,” or “The Christ,” there is an expectation that everyone who accepts the position and receives the job description, he or she will perform the duties described therein. Related to the specific, scriptural descriptions that I have shared with you today, expressed by the two divine preparers, leaving out “The Consultant,“ know that we, you and I, accepted the job. Consequently we are part of the “everyone” when it comes to the performing our jobs. Therefore, privately, do a self-appraisal, conduct a performance review of how well you are meeting your job expectations. Be honest! If you see a need for improvement, make your own individual development plan and then, most importantly, act on it. Yes, yes, yes! I will do the same. Love you! Have a great Thursday! Stay God conscious! And, if you run into a veteran, being Veteran’s Day, thank them for their service, for all they have done for you. Be blessed!
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 Daniel 6:19-20 New King James Version)
Still committed to the climb,
