THE EVIDENCE SAYS: “YOUCANT, YOU DON’T YOU WON’T”

“And the Lord said, “The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.  I will go down now and see whether they have done entirely as the outcry, which has come to Me indicates; and if not, I will know.”  Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord.  Abraham approached and said, “Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?  Suppose there are fifty righteous people within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it?  Far be it from You to do such a thing, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike.  Far be it from You!  Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?”  So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the entire place on their account.”  And Abraham replied, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am only dust and ashes.  Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the entire city because of five?”  And He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”  And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose forty are found there?” And He said, “I will not do It on account of the forty.”  Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak; suppose thirty are found there?”  And He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”  And he said, “Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?”  And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the twenty.”  Then he said, “Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once: suppose ten are found there?”  And He said, “I will not destroy it on account of the ten.”  As soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham the Lord departed, and Abraham returned to his place.” (Genesis 18:20-33 NASB)

“When they had brought them outside, one said, “Escape for your life!  Do not look behind you, and do not stay anywhere in the surrounding area; escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away.”   But Lot said to them, “Oh no, my lords!  Now behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have magnified your compassion, which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, for the disaster will overtake me and I will die; now behold, this town is near enough to flee to, and it is small.  Please, let me escape there (is it not small?) so that my life may be saved.”  And he said to him, “Behold, I grant you this request also, not to overthrow the town of which you have spoken.  Hurry, escape there, for I cannot do anything until you arrive there.”  Therefore, the town was named Zoar.  The sun had risen over the earth when Lot came to Zoar.  Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah from the Lord out of heaven, and He overthrew those cities, and all the surrounding area, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.” (Genesis 19:17-25 NASB)

I make no apology for the lengthy passages above.  I want you to have enough word to substantiate what I am about to say. It does give you a sense of “substance.”  It’s Sunday, so I won’t be long.  (Smile!)

A friend made a statement the other day, “I don’t know how anybody can make it without God in their life.”  My initial response was, “Amen! I agree!”  Several days later, the Holy Spirit presented me with the evidence found in the Scriptures above and the Scriptures below.  The evidence makes it necessary to revise my initial response to my friend’s statement.  My final answer says, “You can’t, you don’t, and you won’t.”  The passages are long, but examine the evidence to verify, validate my answer.

Now, think about this as you make your way to the house of worship this morning!  Aren’t you glad that you have God in your life?  Aren’t you glad that you can be counted among the righteous?  Well, rejoice on right now, rejoice on your way to worship, and rejoice one more time after service too!  May you have a stupendous Sunday!  Be blessed!

Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!  But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, and on His Law he meditates day and night.  He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.  The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind blows away.  Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1 NASB)

Still committed to the climb,
