THE GREATER WRITER IN THE FAMILY

(Subtitle: Find The Courage to Pray)

“So your servant has found courage to pray this prayer to you.” (2 Samuel 7:27b)

Good Monday morning!  This is your Monday Short meditation.  And while as of yesterday, I have composed over 1, 571, 375 words and submitted them under the brand, Mark Writes, I am not as great a composer as my late Aunt, Maude Rose Lee King, who went to her heavenly home on this date in 2019.  I recognize and honor her as “The Greater Writer in the Family” because as I was looking through some keepsakes last week, I found a poem that she composed somewhere between 1950-1959.  To put it in perspective, that means I was somewhere between one-year old and ten-years old.  In other words, I either could not hold a pen or write a poem at all.

Aunt Maude’s words, found below, will most assuredly speak to you as you read them in a serene place this morning.  And on top of that, her prose should persuade you or influence you in such a way that you too will be remembered as a person who prayed.  By the way, my cousin granted me permission to share her poem with you.  But before you read the poem, first let me say, “Aunt Maude!  Thank you for continuing to minister to us.  Your imprint on the world has been extended today.  Therefore, know without a doubt that your labor was not in vain, for I am sure you will touch somebody this morning.  Your touch will change someone or perhaps everyone who reads “My Prayer. “

MY PRAYER

I had a talk with God tonight, and opened up my soul,

I laid my heartaches at his feet and asked him please console.

I said “Dear Lord, I am so weak, and cannot bear the load,

Unless thou walk beside me and smooth the roughened road.

I cannot understand, dear Lord, the things that come to me,

But then I know thou knowest best, and will my keeper be.

I need thy arm to lean on, when storms are raging high,

I need my faith to keep me, when temptations lurk nearby.

When shadows ore’ me gather, when all is dark for me,

Like David let me whisper, my Lord he leadeth Me.

When in the sinking sand I stand, and doubts of fear prevail,

Please place my feet upon the rock, the rock that cannot fail.

I then asked God for one more thing, before I closed my prayer,

I said, just give me love Dear Lord, that scatters everywhere.

I closed my prayer most reverently, and then heard Him say, “Rest well my child and fear no more, I’ll be with you all the way.”

My friend, no matter what you are going through at this time in your life, be moved by what you have just read, remove any thought that you are ever alone, and of course, find the courage to pray.  The Lord hears the prayers of the righteous.  Be blessed!

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…” (I Peter 3:12a NIV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
