THE HELP

“God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1 NASB)

Wait! This is not a movie review! Read on! In a recent Bible Study class, when asked about takeaways from the session, Pastor M.R. King said that one of the last comments that was made was his takeaway list. That last comment was regarding how the Lord saves the righteous in their times of trouble and that He is our help, help in a complete way.

What had stood out to him was that in the secular world and especially in places of employment, you cannot always count on the help. He’s bi-vocational and an operation manager, so he can speak from first-hand experience. While at any place of employment, you may have difficulty depending on the help to be help in a complete way, the Lord’s help is unmistakenly complete. He is reliable and dependable and represent the epitome of these characteristics.

Some people will help until the work gets hard and challenging, but nothing is too hard for God to handle and no challenge too difficult to overcome. The Lord’s help is complete.

You have probably worked with people whose shift ended when yours ended, but routinely, as a habit, they head to the bathroom, every single day, fifteen minutes before the shift ends, leaving you alone to honor the company’s philosophy that you work bell to bell, and you are paid the whole day to work the whole day.  Get ready to thank the Lord, for you see, the Lord will never leave you or forsake you, He will not leave you hanging. The Lord’s help is complete.

Maybe you have worked at organizations or companies where the “Paid Time Off” policy was too liberal and the individuals you hired, expecting them to show up every scheduled day at work to work, were always calling in for an unscheduled day off. Their help is absent without advance notice. What a predicament!  What a problem! Well, you will not have to deal with that in the case of God being your help. As the opening verse emphasized, “God is a very ready, a very present help in times of trouble. The Lord’s help is complete.

Your human help quits, retires, finds other things to do in this secular world. However, look at your divine help. The Lord is described best, in Psalm 121: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” I’m using the literary technique of repetition, so I will say it again, “The Lord’s help is complete.”

Keep what you have read in the forefront of your mind.  You can depend on God. “The Lord’s help is complete.” Be blessed!

“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.” (Psalm 33:20 NASB)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
