“The Lord Is a mighty tower where his people can run for safety—.” (Proverbs 18:10 Contemporary English Version)
Friday morning, after sending out the daily meditation and writing a draft for Saturday’s edition of Mark Writes, I turned on the television and watched a show about the construction of New York’s Steinway Tower; the skinniest skyscraper in the world and one of the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere. The show gave a synopsis of the construction project, the building of the 84-story addition to New York’s skyline. It took place from 2014 to 2022. It involved the work of many people, the best architects, experienced skilled laborers, wind specialists, material engineers, multiple concrete crews, and many more talented and dedicated people.
There are 60 apartments in this building and they range in cost from 7.75 million dollars to 66 million dollars. All I could say at first was “Wow!” Quickly my mind turned to thinking about a few facts: (1) God, the Creator of all things; the One who created the heavens and the earth and man, in seven days. (2) God in three persons did the work of creation. No large crew of human specialist were required. No specialists beyond God Himself were needed. (3) God is our foundation. He upholds all things and if we stand on the foundation, we don’t have to worry about sinking or be anxiously concerned about the winds that blow us to and fro throughout life. (4) All who desire to come to safety, through faith in Christ Jesus, can come to the Lord, a Mighty Tower. There is no occupancy maximum. And the Lord desires no one to perish. You can come to the Tower with faith, and grace secure your place. (5) Neither the height, width nor the depth of our Tower can be described in terms of human measurements. They are all incomparable. (6) This morning, this Sunday, morning, we can come into His special presence. (7) The strength of our Mighty Tower is stronger than words can describe. Perhaps there is one word, reflecting His character. God is omnipotent.
My friend, there is no greater or better place to be this Sunday morning; no place can beat being in the special presence of the Lord. Be assured that He will meet you at the assembly of the saints. Enjoy worship! Be blessed!
O God, listen to me! Hear my prayer! For wherever I am, though far away at the ends of the earth, I will cry to you for help. When my heart is faint and overwhelmed, lead me to the mighty, towering Rock of safety. For you are my refuge, a high tower where my enemies can never reach me.” (Psalm 61:1-3 The Living Bible)
