THERE IS STILL TIME…!

Have you ever thought, in regard to doing something great, that it’s too late? Well, if you have, the answer is “No! It’s not too late!”

That answer was revealed to me from two sources. First, while I was considering what I would do in the upcoming years, I picked up a little white book to place on a display stand in one of the downstairs rooms, a little book around four inches by five inches in size. But it had a big message for you and me. The book is entitled “There’s Always Time for Greatness” by Andrew Postman and published by Hallmark Books. Second, I found some inspiration from “The Book,” the word of God.

The first source, the little white book, shared accounts about who did what, between the ages of 0-100 years old. The first person mentioned was Mary, of the House of Stuart, who became Queen of Scotland before she was even one-year old. She was only six days old! At the age of 76, my age, Thomas Jefferson started designing the buildings and curriculum of the University of Virginia, At the age of 100, Gwen Ffrangeon-Davies, a legendary British stage actress for eight decades, appeared in the movie, “The Master Blackmailer.” There are many individuals mentioned in that little white book, and after scanning through it, I agreed, “There is still time for greatness” regardless of what our chronological age may be. We can do great things for the Lord! Why shouldn’t we? Isn’t the saying true, from our personal perspectives, “He has done great things for me?”

The inspiration that I found in “The Book,” the word of God, is found in Genesis 5:24 (NIV), “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”  So, as long as the Lord leaves us in the land of the living, even reaching an old age, it is because He still has a purpose for us being on this earth. Therefore, even if our functions change, our failed ability to fight off the inevitability of age becomes more apparent as our functionality changes, or if forgetfulness takes the place of instant recall, we must remain faithful. For at any age, “There is still time for greatness.”

Up to this point, I have addressed “time for greatness” in conjunction with age. Let me close this meditation, on day after Thanksgiving, by looking at a “time for greatness,” as it applies to your local church congregation. Whether your congregation is small, mid-size, or mega, as viewed by man, the truth is you can still take the means you are blessed with and achieve great results. Check your Bible for facts to substantiate this statement if you must. That’s okay! But the message for you and for me, better yet, call it a challenge for us, is that regardless of our age, we must live like we realize that there is still time to do great things to perpetuate the kingdom of God!  Agree! Amen! Stay faithful! Be blessed!

But as for me, I will wait continually, and will praise You yet more and more. My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness and of Your salvation all day long; for I do not know the art of writing. I will come with the mighty deeds of the Lord God; I will make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.God, You have taught me from my youth, and I still declare Your wondrous deeds. And even when I am old and gray, God, do not abandon me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:14-18 NASB)
