TIMES HAVE CHANGED

“For I, the Lord, do not change…” (Malachi 3:6 NASB)

Leaving a restaurant,  as we approached our car, I opened the door for my wife. I heard an immediate dialogue from a young couple parked beside us who was also leaving.  The female getting in the car next to us said to her male companion, “Did you see what that man did for his wife.  He got her door.”  The young man responded, “Times have changed.”  On another occasion I was spotted walking beside my spouse on the concrete sidewalk, the side closes to the street, at an open-air shopping center.  A similar dialogue to the one that occurred outside the restaurant was heard from the couple behind us where the woman was closes to the street. “Look at how that man is protective of his wife.”  “The man replies, “Times have changed.”  My bad!  I didn’t know that courtesy, chivalry, or commonly gentlemen behavior was  no longer proper. Of course, I disagree.  You may not.  But let me tell you about One that never changes.

God never changes!  His expectations expressed in the word, Old Testament and New Testament have not changed.  His moral principles have not changed.  And regardless of the impact of evil, abominations are still abominations in the sight of God.  The excuse that Jesus, the Son of God never addressed some of our current day issues, does not change God’s guidelines for living a righteous life, one that is in accordance with His will.  God never changes!  His truth, found in His word from cover to cover is still applicable, appropriate, and accurately stated.  Even what God has to say in The Book of Revelation is still the same.  For instance, the apostate church will still attack or assault the true church.  False teachings will still be disguised as truth, but they can never replace the truth found in the word of God.  Just because everybody is “doing it” does not cancel out the fact that God says in so many words, “Don’t do it.” Laws will be passed as people in authoritative positions, politicians with elected power, lean on their own understanding and sanction all kind of life choices that contradict God’s standards.  But remember, God never changes.  He is still sovereign, still in charge, and still our source for wise counsel. That is why we ought to heed to the advice in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Lean not unto your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge God and He will direct your path.”

Times have changed!  You see it cultures, and on commercials, and in campaigns for rights.  But does that make it right?  If you want to know the truth; know what is really right, just check it out in the word of God.  Times have changed, but God never changes.  Times have changed, but God’s word, the truth that takes us down the path of righteousness, it never changes.  Well, there is your Sunday morning, pre-worship lesson.  Yet I strongly suggest that you go to church today and see what specific word that the Lord, the unchanging God, has specifically for you, sent by a specific messenger for a specific purpose!  Be blessed!

“Flowers and grass fade away, but what our God has said will never change.” (Isaiah 40:8 Contemporary English Version)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
