“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:20-22 KJV)
I remember that day when you visited the doctor, you got your shot and were told to contact the office if you have any problems. Yes, the only instructions we received were that which was written on the label of the prescribed medicine. Technology changed that and I am sure concern about legal liabilities for the pharmaceutical companies had an impact on what happens these days.
Let me prove my point. I get a phone message telling me my medication can be picked up at the pharmacy. It was sort of a surprise because I didn’t even know I was getting a new prescription. I go to pick it up, patiently waiting to see what new meds I had to take. Now keep in mind, I’m the kid who did not like to take pills, too big to swallow in my opinion. So I would put them down the heat register near my bed. Today things are different. I’ll take my medicine and can swallow 6 pills at the same time. Back to the story; digressed again. With my old medicines, I tell the pharmacist tech, “You can throw away the instruction papers. I don’t need them.” Not so with this new medicine, specifically prescribed for me. I kept the instructions that contained directions, in-depth information about the medicine, warnings, a list of a multiplicity of side effects and more. I read every page of what I was given Thursday, all fifteen pages to be exact. On the funny side, I was classifying everything as a symptom. Some of them, honestly, I ignored. For instance, there was one about vision could be blurry. Coming back from performing an early wedding on the first day that I took the medicine, I was driving facing the sun. It was extremely bright, and it seemed to be moving back and forth, pulsating in and out, as if breathing. Even with my visor down and my non-glare glasses on, I could not see what color the traffic lights were. Thank God Gloria told me when it was time to turn. If not the cars behind me would have been backed up for multiple light changes. After exiting the interstate, the green grass peeking through the cracks in the pavement were not only enhanced, but mixed in with the color purple. Finally I make it home, went in the right side of the two- door garage too! Thank God! I go to the mailbox, and I keep seeing spots the color of raspberries. Remembering that 15-pages of instructions mentioned warnings about possible vision issue, I read the instructions again that very next morning with a focus similar to someone taking a final exam.
You have probably guessed where I am going with the meditation, being that it is Sunday morning. When, not if, but when you attend service today, you will receive some instructions from God’s word that will be specifically for you. You will receive directions to help your spiritual health. If you take good notes, I applaud you for doing so. But do yourself and others a favor. Read them again! Refer to the Scriptural passage again! You will benefit from taking the time to do so. Realize this my friend; doctors may experiment with the medicines they prescribe to see what works and what does not work. There is not experimenting with God. That is just not the case with the Great Physician. What He prescribes will work! So listen to what I’m recommending. Read on, revisit your instructions, and take your medicine that you get during worship today! Swallow it and digest it well. You will see positive changes start to take place immediately! Have a great day! Be blessed!
