WHAT IF JESUS PLAYED BASKETBALL

“He is also the head [the life-source and leader] of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will occupy the first place [He will stand supreme and be preeminent] in everything.” (Colossians 1:18 The Amplified Bible)

You have probably seen several “What If” books or compositions.  Well, this morning, let’s start the day with some “What If” fun.  Hopefully, you can tolerate my imagination for a couple of minutes.  Well, here we go!  “What if Jesus played basketball?”

If He did, literally, He would be a point guard or perhaps a perform the role of the coach on the floor.  He would be perfect in the position, of course.  He would call the right play every single time.  He would lead in scoring, and assists every day and always.  He would point people to the spot they should be to ensure the plays from His playbook work.. He would run all kinds of offenses, motion offenses, and of course, He is the expert on the triangle offense.  For you see, He is part of a one-of-a kind, special, unstoppable offense.  It is also called “The Trinity” offense.

If Jesus played basketball, as a point guard, he would communicate words to all players in a straightforward and truthful tone.  Sometimes His look alone would say it all, and things would be put in motion.  He would never give up on any member of the team and He would offer up one-on-one development, whether you thought you needed it or not.  He would want you to strive for perfection by means of exhortation and encouraging words.  He would lead the way to victory and instill in all the members of His team (Called “Believers”) that there is no opponent that would show up on the schedule that cannot be subdued with Him leading you and guiding you to win after win after win after win, after win.

Here is another side benefit or a few more.  He would bring peace in the locker room. His love would spread and unite the team.  His unselfish example would be contagious too.  I could go on but let me just say this.  While He is the coach on the floor, He would always be mindful to be in stay in synch with the will and game plan of the all-powerful, all-knowing, always present, Head Coach, His Father.  It’s amazing!  However, their perfect chemistry is understood when you hear Jesus’ words, “I and the Father are One

Enough of my morning imagination.  Now it’s time for some Thursday morning admonition: In the course of your lifetime, let Jesus be your point guard. He knows “the game” better than anyone who walked or will ever walk on this earth.  He can empathize with all you go through.  He knows all about your struggles.  Take note!  There is no dispute on His all-time status!  He is the GOAT, the greatest of all time.  Now this is where you say, with meaning, before not after today’s “game: “First giving honor to God who is the head of my life, and to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.”

Let’s go!  Why are you still sitting here?  Vacate the bench and exit the locker room of your abode and do so with eagerness!  Get in the game my friend, and let Jesus help you come out a winner.  You can do it!  Be blessed!

“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:57 King James Version)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
