WHEN THE DEVICE GETS IT WRONG

“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.” (Psalm 5:19b NIV)

If You use Alexa or Siri, I am sure “she” did not comply with your request at some time or the other.  It happens to me all the time.  When I asked her to play “Be Thankful for What You’ve Got,” she played that old song that said, “You may not drive a great bug car, diamond in the back, big white walls, digging the scene, etc.”  That was not what I wanted to hear, but it did make me think about being thankful for whatever the Lord has blessed me with and not to covet other’s blessings.

I’m sure my artificial intelligence device did not hear me correctly when I asked “her” to play “My God Is An Awesome God.”  She cut me off, heard my command wrong, and she played the song with the lyrics, “Nothing you can do cause I’m stuck like glue to my guy.”  I quickly changed “guy” to “God” so I could focus on our awesome God without the musical accompaniment.  As faithful believers, we will stick like glue to our God if we are wise.  We will hold on to his unchanging hands.  And we will sing and make music from the heart with lyrics similar to these, ”I’m still holding on!  And I will never let go of His hand.”

Sometimes, not knowing how my A.I. equipment will respond, I have ask purposefully asked “her,” from the start, to play an old R&B song.  This time she responded perfectly.  Go figure!  But instead of listening to the song in a secular context, I listened to it from a spiritual perspective.  Two examples: I asked “her” to play “How You Like Me Now,” and I translated it into how do you like me since you can see that I am no longer the old Mark, but I am a new creature in Christ Jesus.  I requested, intentionally again, “Always and Forever,” not to revisit some old slow-dance song, but to think about how I really love the Lord.

Listen, if your device gets it wrong this morning, convert the song through your God-conscious prism and Christ centered, internal interpreting mind.  No device?  Well. you can do the same with what you hear on the secular radio.  For instance, if you hear, “Ain’t nothing stopping me now, I’m moving on,” lyrics from and some oldie but goodie, think about how you will remain steadfast, immovable, and always abounding in the work of the Lord, for your labor is not in vain.  If you hear another one that admonishes you to “Celebrate,” don’t think about any party or particular event!  Instead, look ahead to what a time it will be in heaven as you celebrate God, joining in praise around the throne of God.

This may have been a little on the light side this morning, and perhaps you enjoyed a little levity.  Still, I hope it made you smile, and I also hope that you will think about the Lord in all that you do today and in all that you hear.  Have a great Friday!  Be blessed!

“Sing to God a brand-new song.  He’s made a world of wonders!  He rolled up his sleeves,  He set things right.  God made history with salvation.  He showed the world what he could do.” (Psalm 98:1-2 The Message Bible)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
