WHEN THE STAR IS NOT IN THE GAME

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (Revelation 22:16 NKJV)

Whether it is in regard to sports or spiritual matters, it makes a great difference when the star is not in the game. In regard to the former, I am speaking of athletic games. In regard to the latter, I am referring to the game of life, a game that extends from birth to death on this earth.

As a ninth grader, after losing the first game of the season, our freshmen high school basketball team won the city tournament and it appeared that we would only have the one loss the entire season. However, right before the last game, three of our stars were moved up to the junior varsity team because of their skills and due to the fact that the JV season extended longer than ours. So, we, the remaining freshmen team, comes to the last game of the season and we play a team that ran plays like the old Hickory team in the movie Hoosiers. It was a tight game, but our long winning streak came to an end. We missed Joe, Steve, and Ron. Yes, I name them! Perhaps with just one of those stars we would have been victorious. Yet we learned, it makes a difference when the star is not in the game.

In the game of life, when the star is missing, when Jesus is not in the game, our performance is sub-standard and more times than not, we lose. And think of this, because I am sure some of the writers and theologians and preachers reading this will make an exact comparison with what our freshmen team experienced, let me say when we don’t take advantage of our three Stars, who are actually three in one; when we don’t take advantage as believers of having the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the game of life, it makes a great difference.

Let’s continue in the game of life today and consciously depend on our Stars to make a positive difference in how the day turns out. Let’s win one more for the Lord today! It should be easy, knowing He is on our side. Have a fantastic, faith-walking, favored to be victorious day. Be blessed!

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14 NASB)

Committed to the climb,
