“WHEN THINGS ARE MESSED UP”

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)

In this life you will have to deal with times when things are messed up.  When you were a child and your number one Saturday chore was to clean up your messed up room, there was a process you followed.  Not necessarily in this order, but you had to pick up stuff, put up stuff, and puff up your pillows,  You had to hang up clothes that missed the closet somehow.  You had to make up your bed, for real!  You dusted some, but after parental inspection, you dusted for real.  You had to put your shoes in the proper place, achievable only after your found both the left and right matching shoes.  You ran the sweeper and even picked up what the sweeper refused to pick up by hand.  I used to call the latter “clicking.”  My older children who are reading this are laughing their heads off right now, after seeing the term “clicking,”  The Saturday chores routine was not only to keep the house neat and in order, but it was another way of realizing that when things are messed up, action is required.  Furthermore, once the action required is complete and the mess begone, things are better.

Our spiritual lives operate in a similar way.  When things are messed up, action is required.  It does not matter if a situation is messed up, if a particular place is messed up, or if we ourselves are messed up.  Action is required.  Here are some suggestive actions when things are messed up:  Messed up?  Get prayed up!  Messed up?  Get positioned right as it relates to getting right with God.  Clean up your act!  Messed up?  Prop up by depending on the guidance of the Holy Spirit!  Messed up?  Put your head in the position where you can read the word of God, and really read it too, for understanding, so that you will be kept from leaning on your own understanding.  Messed up?  Plead up, and ask the Savior to help you.  Somewhere I heard, “He is willing to help you and He will carry you through!”  Messed up?  Present yourself up as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.  Messed up?  Plug up with the light from the lighthouse that shines on you, and let your light shine.  After all, you are the light of the world and the light you shine can changes things, including yourself, as your presence sends darkness hightailing away!  Messed up relationship?  Run up to the behavioral spot where you are the bigger person and reconcile with the other party!  The Lord will be well pleased with you!  You get the message, don’t you?  I thought so.  But I will state it again.  When things are messed up, action is required.  Once the action required is complete and the mess begone, things get better.  I think somebody’s day just got better.  Fixing the messed up just got doable for somebody and I am glad about it!  Praise God!  Be blessed!

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me!” (Philippians 4:13 ESV)
