WHO’S COUNTING?

“I mean that you should use every opportunity you have for doing good, because these are evil times. So don’t be foolish with your lives but learn what the Lord wants you to do.” (Ephesians 5:16-18 Easy-to-Read Version)

This is your Monday Short meditation! Focus on the last part of the passage above which says, “but learn what the Lord wants you to do.”

Why the title above? Here’s why, my friend. I conduct three bible study classes during the week, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The Friday class is usually in session longer than the other two, but the Wednesday and Thursday classes are becoming competitive, better said “comparative,” in terms of the length of the classes. Friday usually “wins” in terms of time, going an hour and a half or longer; 30 plus minutes past the one-hour class time. But that’s great! I pointed out to the Wednesday class that last week they went a little over one hour and fifteen minutes., and the week before the same class went one hour and twenty minutes. One of the Wednesday class members who really likes the class replied to my comment, “Who’s counting?” Now you know the reason for the title. You see, I construed her comment to mean that it was not a competition, but rather a concerted effort to learn what the Lord wants us to do. This class member and her fellow students relish the opportunity to make the most of their time. And listen, studying is not only doing good, but it prepares one to do good in these evil times.

I hope you find your way to a bible study class this week! Maybe you will be in the number of believers who seek to comply with the verse below. When it comes to your perspective of how long a class may run, ask yourself the question, “Who’s counting?”  Be blessed!

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version)

Committed to the climb,
