WRONG MESSAGE

My early morning routine starts with setting out two coffee cups, one for me and one for my wife. Beside her cup, I place packets of sugar-free sweetener and a tiny sugar-stirring spoon. As I reached into the box to pull out the sugar substitute packets, I said to myself, “The message on the first packet I pull out will be my subject for today’s meditation.” (If you didn’t know, each package has a different saying imprinted on the back side, and they are usually thought-provoking.)  The packet I pulled out said, “Trust yourself!”  I instantly became wide awake, even before taking the first sip of coffee. Why? Because the imprinted message automatically and speedily went through my scriptural-based prism and it moved me to respond instantly, immediately, “Wrong message!”

The inscription on the packet reminded me of sayings I have heard people use on previous occasions to provide counsel to others. Sayings such as, “Trust your gut” (I thought the gut was related to eating and not thinking!), “Trust your first instinct,” “If you are going to trust anybody, trust yourself,” and “As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.”  My scriptural-based prism repeated the response that in the paragraph above, indicating with force that the message on the packet should be instantly rejected, “Wrong message!”

By now, you probably know where I am heading in my effort to keep you God-conscious today. Nevertheless, let me make my point, just in case you need a reminder this Tuesday morning. My point, my goal, is to provide you with some wise counsel, taken from a book filled with wisdom. Check out the familiar closing verse for counsel that comes from the inspiration of God and then go out with that thought in mind throughout this day and every day thereafter that the Lord blesses you to see.  Be blessed!

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)

Committed to the climb,

Mark L. King

  1. At first I thought, “How is that a wrong message?”, until I kept reading. This is so true. I can never begin to think that it’s okay to trust myself. If God isn’t in the plan, then I won’t get very far.

    1. Thank you, Dr. King for processing the meditation all the way through, this arriving at the premise and purpose intended. Be blessed!
