YOU ARE THE PR PERSON!

He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.  From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.  “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.  For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.  God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.  For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:24-31 NLT)

In many big corporations, when something has occurred within the company, something worthy of the attention of the media, when managers are met by investigative reporters or inquiring representatives of external organizations, they are equipped with a prepared response, “You will have to contact our public relations department.”  Following that response they well reel off the mandated, memorized contact number.  This response was not a product of quick thinking, quite the contrary.  The response has been rehearsed more than once in management training programs in days past, and recently reviewed in light of the newsworthy happening.  Even though managers could answer the questions, this response assured that the company’s preferred retort came from a single source in the Public Relations Department.  This practice avoid misinformation being disseminated, as well as the expression of varying opinions held by the company’s management team and aligned with the theorem that communications cannot be communicated without some degree of alteration in words, tone, or tempo.

That corporate technique, tactic, method or manner does not apply to us as believers!  We can share the newsworthy information we have privy to, just as the Apostle Paul above!  We are the PR department!  We were appointed as such by Jesus Christ Himself!  Remember that when asked about your faith, your membership in the family of God, and your personal views about spiritual matters, as long as the latter is based on the word of God.  Have a great Saturday!  Remember worship service tomorrow!  Be blessed!

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22 KJV)

Still committed to the climb,

Mark L. King
